Fire in Coombs Canyon area burns approximately 900 acres

PENDLETON – A fire in the Coombs Canyon area south of Pendleton burned approximately 900 acres last night. The fire began around the same time that thunderstorms were moving through the area, but the cause of the fire has not been released.

Pendleton Fire and Ambulance Chief Tony Pierotti says there were no structures damaged and no injuries. One residence did need to be evacuated during the fire. During the mop-up stage units had to be diverted when another fire was reported on Nolan Grade Road near Echo.

In addition to Pendleton Fire and Ambulance, Umatilla County Fire District No. 1, Umatilla Rural Fire Protection District, East Umatilla Fire and Rescue, and Pilot Rock Rural Fire all responded.
