LA GRANDE – A man and his dog are safe after a fire ripped through his home in west La Grande.
The fire was reported in the early hours of Thursday, July 6 at a home on Oak Street, between Main and Spring avenues.
Firefighters at the scene say the most likely cause was an unattended cigarette.
The sole occupant of the home was able to escape with his dog and neither suffered any injuries, but firefighters say the house is most likely a complete loss.
La Grande fire crews had to return to the house later in the morning, after hot spots in the attic reignited, but they were able to quickly extinguish the remaining flames.
Neighbors reported sounds of explosions to Elkhorn Media. Those explosions were caused by O2 canisters inside the home at the time of the blaze.
