RICHLAND, Washington – The Gesa Community Foundation has chosen the Walla Walla Fire Department and Benton County Fire Protection District No. 2 as recipients of the Gesa Credit Union’s Local Heroes Grant Award, totaling $40,000 in grant money being distributed to the two separate fire departments.
The Walla Walla Fire Department is receiving $35,000 in funding. WWFD plans to use the grant money to purchase new electric-hydraulic extrication equipment.
“These funds will allow our department to keep up with the latest technology in life-saving equipment,” Deputy Fire Chief Eric Wood said.
Benton County Fire Protection District No. 2 is receiving $5,000 in funding. It will dedicate the funds to purchase communication devices for the district’s rescue boat.
The Local Heroes Grant Award program offers funding to organizations that assist firefighters, healthcare workers, law enforcement officers, teachers, and veterans. This year, 43 organizations were awarded through the program.
