HARNEY COUNTY-Effective today, June 7, fire danger in the Burns Interagency Fire Zone is rated MODERATE.
Fire Danger ratings describe conditions that reflect the potential, over a large area, for a fire to start, spread and require suppression action. But this rating is MORE THAN JUST A WORD! It comes from a complex mixture of science, technology, and local observations and measurements.
There are 5 ratings for fire potential – Low, Moderate, High, Very High, and Extreme. Each rating helps the public understand local wildfire risk and helps firefighters plan suppression strategies.
