Crews battling large field fire near Milton-Freewater

MILTON-FREEWATER — Firefighters are battling a large fire burning through wheat fields south of Milton-Freewater on Sunday.

The fire broke out early Sunday morning and is burning in the vicinity of Lower Dry Creek Road and Steen Road.

The Milton-Freewater Rural Fire Department responded to the scene, and East Umatilla Fire and Rescue is providing mutual aid.

Law enforcement has closed access to Steen Road at Highway 11 to allow firefighting equipment to suppress the blaze from the roadway. Officials said the fire is not currently affecting traffic in either direction on Highway 11.
