LA GRANDE – Monday night’s fire that consumed part of a private log deck was started by an old burn pile, according to an investigation. The fire which brought in multiple fire agencies was located on X Avenue in La Grande at around 6:40 near the mill property. The flames were visible throughout parts of town, some callers suspected the fire to be at Wood Grain’s log pile, however, the log pile was on private property and the log pile was being used for firewood. Half of the pile was burnt, but according to Chief Kretschmer, the damaged logs are salvageable.
