Fire at the corner of K Ave and 4th Street in La Grande Tuesday afternoon

LA GRANDE- UPDATE 4/2/25 (Release from the La Grande Fire Department) Yesterday afternoon, at approximately 4:50 PM, the La Grande Fire Department (LGFD) responded to a reported fire near the elevator in the Joseph Building at 4th and K Avenue in La Grande. Upon arrival, LGFD crews discovered black smoke coming from the front entryway of the building. Firefighters entered the building, extinguished the flames and were able to quickly knock down the fire.

The situation was brought under control in a timely manner and the cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.

LGFD was assisted by crews from the La Grande Rural Fire Protection District and officers from the La Grande Police Department. We appreciate their support and teamwork in ensuring public safety.

A fire at the corner of K Avenue and 4th Street in La Grande at the old courthouse building drew a lot of attention yesterday afternoon. According to preliminary information from La Grande Police Chief Gary Bell, a backpack had been reported on fire inside the building. Fire crews quickly cleared the area and extinguished the blaze while law enforcement blocked the area from vehicles.  No other information has been released at this time.
