WALLOWA COUNTY – (Information provide by Wallowa Resources)  Wallowa County residents are most likely familiar with the ongoing housing crisis. Finding an affordable home to own or rent is increasingly challenging, and the housing shortage inevitably has knock-on effects on the community and on local businesses, who struggle to find and retain employees.

Zach Cahill, Housing and Economic Development Intern with the Rural Engagement & Vitality Center (REV Center), has worked all summer to understand this issue and possible ways to address it. Zach, a senior at Eastern Oregon University, will soon report his findings and recommend multiple approaches the County could take to address the crisis. His work will also be shared with the housing actions teams brought together through events hosted by the REV Center, Eastern Oregon Workforce Board (EOWB), and Northeast Oregon Economic Development District (NEOEDD). There will be a Workforce Housing Solutions Webinar on Sept 28 at 9-11am. On October 5, people from Union, Wallowa, and Baker counties will gather to determine priorities and take action. Register for one or both events here!
