PENDLETON – The Pendleton City Council is expected to approve a grant program to help save restaurants at its regular meeting at 7 p.m. today (Tuesday). The SOAR grant program was already approved by the Pendleton Development Commission last week.

Save Our Amazing Restaurants would provide help to meet fixed expenses like rent and utilities over a four month period. Eateries within the urban renewal district will receive funds from the PDC, while the seven outside the district would be helped by money from the city’s community development fund.

Approval is considered to be highly likely because the council is comprised of the members of the PDC, the city’s urban renewal arm.

Also at the meeting, the council will have the first reading of a proposal to make amendments to the city’s street excavation ordinance. A public hearing is expected to be scheduled for the next council meeting. In addition, the council will have a first reading of a proposal to rezone an acre of land on Southeast Third Street from commercial to medium-density residential.

The meeting can be viewed on Zoom. The ID number is 848 8298 2122 and the pass code is 248854.
