WALLA WALLA – The new Fifth Avenue pedestrian and bicycle only bridge over Mill Creek is in place and now open to the public. Curb, gutter, and sidewalk have also been improved on Fifth Avenue, along with landscaping and irrigation.

Improvements to fish passage in the Mill Creek Channel have also been completed from Third to Sixth avenues.

The estimated $2.6 million project was funded by a $2.1 million grant awarded to Tri-State Steelheaders, a nonprofit group which promotes healthy salmon and steelhead populations and managed the project, from the Washington Fish Barrier Removal board. The city covered the remaining cost.
