Federal layoffs spark local protests in Northeast Oregon

LA GRANDE – In response to ongoing sweeping layoffs and terminations across most federal agencies, protests are being planned in some Eastern Oregon communities. According to Meg Hawks, the spouse of a local U.S. Forest Service employee, along with other local sources, who wished to remain anonymous, a layoff protest is slated to begin at noon today at La Grande City Hall, 1000 Adams Ave, La Grande. A similar protest is also planned for Baker City as well according to Hawks.

From what information was provided, the layoffs in question are predominantly impacting newly hired and probationary employees at federal agencies, including Schedule A positions.
