BAKER COUNTY – On Monday, September 6, 2021 at approximately 6:40 PM, Oregon State Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a commercial motor vehicle crash on Interstate 84 near milepost 338.
Preliminary investigation revealed a white Freightliner CMV, operated by Hassen Ibrahim (38) of Dublin, OH, was westbound when a set of dual tires detached from the flatbed trailer in tow. The dual tires bounced across the center concrete barrier and became airborne to a great height. The tires came down into the windshield and cab of an eastbound blue Freightliner CMV, operated by James Green (50) of Caldwell, ID.
Ibrahim stopped, chained up the broken axle and left the scene. He was located by Troopers near Baker City.
Green sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. Ibrahim was not injured. A passenger in Ibrahim’s CMV, Mohamed Kulale (61), was also uninjured.
OSP was assisted by Baker County Sheriff’s Office, Huntington Fire Rescue and ODOT.
Interstate 84 was closed for approximately 6 hours.
**Investigating Troopers are requesting assistance-Any witnesses to the crash that were not interviewed are requested to contact *OSP and reference SP21-256040. Additionally, witnesses reported a male in a white CMV stopped and spoke with Ibrahim. Troopers would like to identify this subject and obtain a statement. **
