HARNEY COUNTY-Emergency crews are on the scene of a newly ignited, fast-moving wildfire burning north of Bald Mountain. Dubbed the Riddle Fire, the blaze has already scorched an estimated 250 acres and continues to spread rapidly through dry grass and brush.
Fire officials report that erratic wind conditions in the area are posing significant challenges, making early containment efforts difficult for responders.
The Riddle Fire is approximately 250 acres, located north of Bald Mountain. It is being fueled by dry grass and brush with no structure being threatened at this time. The Riddle Fire is currently 0% contained.
Local weather stations report shifting, unpredictable wind gusts in the area, which are driving the flames in multiple directions and creating volatile fire behavior.
A robust, multi-agency response has been mobilized to combat the growing blaze.
Local ground crews are actively working to establish defensive lines, while multiple air resources—including air tankers and helicopters—have been deployed to drop water and retardant to slow the fire’s forward progress.
Officials urge the public to avoid the area north of Bald Mountain to keep roads clear for incoming emergency vehicles and heavy equipment.
