John Day, Prairie City, Hines, Burns, Or-Hunting and recreation are great traditions on the Malheur National Forest. Please make fire safety a part of that tradition.
Hunting season and other fall outdoor activities bring an increase for the potential of human caused fires, and consequential need for fire safety. It is extremely important that visitors take appropriate measures to prevent human caused fires.
Hunters and other forest visitors should never ignite slash/brush piles or downed trees for use as a warming fire because these fuels will continue to hold heat and burn until the woody fuels around them become combustible and spread in the forest. Also make sure that campfires are extinguished and dead out before you leave them.
To report a wildfire, call 911 or contact Burns Interagency Communication Center at 541-573-1000 or the John Day Interagency Dispatch Center at 541-575-1321.
