BAKER CITY – A scam that pops up every couple of years in Eastern Oregon appears to be popping up again. Recently, the Baker City Police Department has been made aware of a transient person passing off fake or costume jewelry to unsuspecting persons by engaging in a conversation stating that they would sell them a ‘valuable’ piece of jewelry for next to nothing just so they can get enough money to buy gas in order to continue their journey.
The department wants citizens to remember that if it sounds to good to be true, them it probably is.
People who have been victimized by this scam have presented their purchases at local, reputable jewelry stores, just to find out that their investment is worthless.
