BAKER CITY – The Oregon Legislature had about $100 million earmarked for rural infrastructure from the federal government and a chunk of it is going to benefit county fairs.
House Bill 5202 is doling out money to fair boards throughout the state, and is sending $2 million to Baker County for improvements to the fairgrounds. That fits in neatly with the board’s five-year plan for improvements to make the grounds more suitable to other events as well as making needed repairs.
Baker wasn’t the only county fair to benefit from HB 5202. Grant and Harney counties will also receive $2 million each. Meanwhile, the Union, Wallowa, and Umatilla county fairs are each receiving $1 million.
