LA GRANDE — A Union County man may have taken his Super Bowl Sunday festivities a bit too far.

24-year-old Tanner James Free is in custody in the Union County Jail, accused of assaulting a La Grande Police Officer.

According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office (UCSO), deputies and LGPD officers were called to a home on Pine Street, just outside of city limits, on reports of a domestic disturbance.

UCSO says the disturbance was a fight between a father and son. The Sheriff’s Office says during the investigation, Tanner Free was extremely intoxicated and made it difficult for the officers to conduct an investigation. He was taken into custody and while being taken to a patrol vehicle, Free allegedly elbowed and kicked a La Grande Police Officer who was assisting deputies.

The UCSO says the officer, who hasn’t been named, is fine.

Free remains lodged in the Union County Jail, charged with Disorderly Conduct and Assault on a Police Officer.
