EXTREME WINTER WEATHER: ODOT urging drivers to avoid Sumpter and Austin areas

EASTERN OREGON – ODOT is cautioning travelers to avoid OR 7, OR 245 and U.S. 26 near the Sumpter and Austin areas in Baker, Grant and Malheur counties due to extreme winter weather. This includes blowing snow with near zero visibility, heavy snow, unplowed roads, and drifting snow across the lanes creating extremely hazardous conditions. One snow plow driver said they couldn’t see 20 feet in front of them. On U.S. 395C, south of Canyon City, a log truck slid mostly off the road and impacted travel.
