Heat advisory for parts of Oregon, Washington starting Tuesday

PENDLETON – A heat advisory watch goes into effect Tuesday for an area that includes portions of Umatilla, Morrow and Walla Walla counties, as well as Benton and Franklin counties.
It includes the cities of Pendleton, Hermiston and Boardman in Oregon, and Walla Walla and the Tri-Cities in Washington. It also extends down the Columbia River to The Dalles.
The National Weather Service in Pendleton said temperatures up to 105 degrees are possible, which poses a moderate to major risk of heat-related illness. Officials recommend staying in air-conditioned spaces indoors, drinking plenty of fluids, and checking on relatives and neighbors.
NWS Pendleton Lead Meteorologist Christel Bennese said it’s not just the hot temperatures during the day that trigger the advisory, it’s also warmer conditions at night.
“Ten to 15 degrees warmer at night, upper 60s to low 70s. We consider that not enough reprieve,” Bennese said.
The watch is in effect through Thursday, with Wednesday forecast to be the hottest day.
