JOHN DAY – John Day City Manager Melissa Bethel was in the KJDY and News102 Newsroom on Friday, and said the transfer of evidence from the former John Day Police Department to the Grant County Sheriff has been completed:

“We just completed the evidence room inventory and transfer, which was a major goal. As you know, the city got a grant for $5,000 to complete that; [to] hire somebody. So, we hired a third-party. Ken Reubens Consulting. He came in, and it took him four days. Now, all of the evidence with the police department is now over with the Sheriff and we have completed that process.”

The City of John Day’s Police Department has been dissolved since 2022 due to funding issues.
