Evacuations urged near Hagen Fire ahead of extreme weather; New Level 1 evacuations issued in Union Co.

UMATILLA COUNTY — Officials in Umatilla County are urging residents near the Hagen Fire to evacuate immediately ahead of an unusually severe weather forecast expected to create extreme wildfire conditions Saturday.
The National Weather Service has issued a rare Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) Red Flag Warning for the region, in effect Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Forecasters warned that strong winds combined with extremely dry fuels could drive rapid fire growth, long-range spotting and unpredictable behavior.
A Level 3 “GO NOW” evacuation order is active for residents near the fire. Local authorities advised those in the danger zone to leave Friday without waiting to see flame or smoke, warning that deteriorating conditions could make roads impassable and prevent emergency crews from providing rescue assistance.
“Leave while roads remain passable and visibility allows for safer travel,” county officials said in a news release, emphasizing that additional warnings may not be possible once winds intensify.
Authorities are also asking the public to avoid nonessential travel along Highway 204 through the Tollgate, Spout Springs and Langdon Lake areas to keep the roadway open for fleeing residents and incoming emergency equipment.
A Level 2 “BE SET” evacuation alert remains in effect for surrounding areas. Officials strongly advised vulnerable residents, including older adults, individuals with mobility needs, and those moving pets or livestock, to evacuate early.
The National Weather Service reserves PDS designations for top-tier fire threats meeting or exceeding the 95th percentile of local fire-weather severity.
