UPDATE 3:30PM:
Hug Road has been reopened to all through traffic. Citizens in the area who evacuated their homes are safe to return as all evacuation notices have been lifted. The cause of the fire has not been determined and is under investigation.

Update from the Oregon Department of Forestry: Fire name #YakFire2024 has burned approximately 50 acres of grass, stubble, and brush. The continued hazards are structures and the wildland interface. Full progression has been stopped at this time. Firefighting efforts will continue, monitoring internal heat and any forward movement, as wind is a factor. The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation. Hug Road is currently only open to fire traffic.
Update as of 2:30pm – Fire officials stated that all residents in the vicinity of the fire were notified of the fire danger and the potential need for evacuation. Those that were not home received a posted notice by Union County Sheriff’s Office Deputies.
The fire progression has halted, and at this time there have been no reports of structures lost. The area affected includes east of Hug Road to West of Highway 82, North of Courtney Lane to the summit of Hamburger Hill.
Fire crews are conducting mop-up operations and ask citizens to avoid the area. Hug Road is only open to fire traffic.
Update 2:10pm Oregon Department of Forestry – Northeast Oregon District, A wildfire, reported to the Blue Mountain Interagency Dispatch Center (BMIDC) at 1:17 p.m. on Hug Road in the Summerville area is happening now. Multi-agency resources, such as engines, a district dozer, and water tenders, are responding. We ask the public to stay clear of the area so the firefighters and equipment can gain access to the fire in a timely manner.
Fire Update – 1:45 p.m.Multiple homes have been evacuated in the vicinity of Hug Road near Summerville as Union County Sheriff’s Office Deputies have been making door-to-door notifications to residents in the area.
