PORTLAND – The Northwest Interagency Coordination Center says the S-503 Fire on the north end of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Reservation is now estimated at 4,300 acres. The fire is moving southeast, and the perimeter of the blaze is changing rapidly. At last report it was roughly three miles east of Highway 26 and eight miles north of Simnasho.
There is a Level 3 (Go Now) evacuation in place for a small portion of Kelley Springs Road northeast of the fire. The Level 1 (Get Ready) evacuation order for east of Kelley Springs has been upgraded to Level 2 (Get Set).
Ten single-family homes and 10 multi-family residences are threatened by the blaze in the Pine Grove area to the northeast of the fire. Another area of concern is to the southwest as winds are predicted to shift throughout the day. Crews are working to hold the northwest anchor point and establish new control line along both the northeast and southwest flanks.
At last report, the fire was two percent contained. The cause is under investigation.
