PENDLETON – The city of Pendleton’s annual audit presented a number of problems this year. City staff is submitting a corrective action report to the state on how the problems are being fixed.
“There were several errors that were made in the form of paperwork,” City Manager Robb Corbett said. “One of the things I always look for is fraud, and there was no evidence of that.”
Corbett said it was more a lack of expertise in dealing with several grant-funded ongoing projects with differing requirements.
“We have large grants all over town,” he said. “We have committed ourselves to rebuilding the city and we’re using grants and mechanisms using state dollars to help get that done and with that comes a lot of administrative process that we’re not exceptional at completing.”
Corbett said once the problems are found, staff has to explain what will be done to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
“The goal is to always get better at what we do,” Corbett said. “I’m very proud of what we’re accomplishing and we are committed to doing a better job of processing the paperwork.”
