EOU’s 2023 Teacher Excellence Award Recognizes a Long-Time Music Faculty

LA GRANDE – (Release from Eastern Oregon University) The 2023 Teacher Excellence Award committee presented long-time Eastern Oregon University (EOU) Professor of Music Peter Wordelman with the distinguished Teacher Excellence Award, recognizing his efforts and outstanding accomplishments in teaching and mentoring both in and out of the classroom.

Dr. Wordelman is currently serving as Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences and Professor of Music, a role in which he teaches applied voice, conducts the EOU Chamber Choir, and the Union County Children’s Choir, and teaches conducting.

The Teacher Excellence Award recognizes faculty members who excel in their field through innovative engagement and go above and beyond what is expected in their roles.

The award process is led by a student committee that evaluates student nominations.

“I was very honored to receive this award. The fact that it came from a student committee and was funded by an EOU Foundation donor made it extra special,” Wordelman said. “I get to teach so many wonderful students at EOU, and I am looking forward to meeting many more in the years to come.”

The award was presented to Dr. Wordelman during the May 2023 Board of Trustees meeting.

“We recognize an outstanding faculty member with this year’s Teacher Excellence Award,” Co-President Richard Chaves said. “The winner of this award has gone above and beyond their faculty responsibilities. This award provides a unique opportunity for students to commend their faculty.”
