LA GRANDE – (Release from Eastern Oregon University) The NAIA released the results of the first Women’s Wrestling Coaches’ Top 20 Poll of the 2022-23 season Thursday morning. Eastern Oregon University remains at No. 15, the same spot they held in the preseason rankings.
Only two tournaments in, the Mountaineers still have a bulk of their competition ahead of them.
“We will get to see more ranked opponents as the season goes on and we are improving each week,” Coach Mhar Caballa said.
Eastern has posted strong showings at two tournaments in this young 2022-23 season. The Mounties dominated their own Mountaineer Open tallying 13 placers in their first showing of the year. Stephanie Blankenship, Morgan Shines, and Erin Redford all walked away as tournament champions in their respective weight classes.
In their next appearance, the Mountaineers put together a strong performance at the Mike Clock Open. Eastern had three individuals place at the Open in a field that included 14 teams. Leading the way was freshman Liv Wieber who finished second in the 143-pound weight class. Morgan Shines (third) and Nayeli Flores Roque (sixth) also placed in their respective weight classes.
Coming in at No. 15 as a team, EOU also had six individuals earn top-25 rankings in their weight classes. All ranked individuals are listed below.

The next competition for the Mountaineers will be this coming Sunday, Nov. 20. EOU will compete at the Spokane Open in Spokane, Wash. for their third competition of the year.
