LA GRANDE – (Release from Eastern Oregon University) The NAIA released its updated Women’s Volleyball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll on Wednesday morning and Eastern Oregon University moved up to No. 7. The Mounties started the season at No. 12 and jumped up five spots thanks to their performances at the Big Sky Challenge and Hampton Inn Classic over the last two weeks. Eastern also earned two first place votes in the poll.
EOU sits at 7-1 to start the season before conference play. The lone loss came in their season opener to No. 9 Viterbo. Since then the Mounties have went on a seven-match winning streak, winning five-straight against ranked opponents. That streak has included wins over the now-ranked No. 2 Midland, No. 6 Jamestown, and No. 15 Central Methodist. Eastern also had wins over pre-season ranked No. 25 Ottawa, and No. 20 Columbia.
The Mountaineers are one of four Cascade Collegiat Conference teams represented in the first NAIA 2022 Women’s Volleyball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. Corban (No. 5), Southern Oregon (No. 22), and Bushnell (receiving votes) also made an appearance in the rankings.
The Mounties will continue their early season competition against top ranked teams when they start conference play this Friday, Sept. 2 at No. 5 Corban. The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
