LA GRANDE – (Release from Eastern Oregon University) The American Volleyball Coaches Association along with the United States Marine Corps. announced today that Eastern Oregon University was one of 1,332 collegiate and high school volleyball teams to have earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2022 -23 season and academic year. This year set an all-time record for programs honored.
“The commitment our coaches make to help their student-athletes pursue the best versions of themselves is evident in the academic accomplishments highlighted today.” said AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. “Achievement on the court has always been closely tied to success in the classroom which is reflected by the number of championship programs honored.”
EOU Volleyball finished the year with a 3.478 GPA. To receive the award a team must maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.
“Extremely proud of these young ladies both on the court and off,” Head Coach Kaki McLean Morehead said. “This year they have achieved so many great things and this is another memorable achievement to add to that list.”
The 2022-23 year marked another successful year both on and off the court for the Mounties. The team made history competing in the program’s first ever NAIA National Semifinal match while also earning its first ever No. 1 national ranking. Academically, EOU volleyball had nine players earn Academic All-Conference honors.
