EOU volleyball claims second consecutive CCC Tournament championship

LA GRANDE – (Release from EOU) Entering the match as the top seed with a remarkable 30-1 record, the Eastern Oregon University women’s volleyball team asserted their dominance in a thrilling Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship showdown at Quinn Coliseum. The Mounties secured a decisive 3-1 victory over a surging Corban team that defeated No. 12 Southern Oregon in the semi-finals.
Despite the Warrior’s best efforts, The Mountaineers ultimately secured the victory with set scores of 25-17, 25-21, 18-25, and 25-20. This triumph not only crowned the Mounties as the CCC Champions, but also highlights why they are one of the premier contenders for the upcoming NAIA National Championships.
“I’m so proud of how our team played tonight,” said Head Coach Kaki McLean Morehead. “We knew going into this game that it was not going to be an easy one, but we needed to just do our jobs, play Mountie volleyball, and control the things we can control.”
Eastern Oregon impressed offensively, with standout performances from Ashton Haughton and Keira Vaughn, contributing 16 and 15 kills, respectively. Hannah Ledgerwood also showed out for the Mounties with 33 total assists, while libero Hailey Arritola provided crucial defensive support with 17 digs. EOU was led in blocking by Mylie Mills and Kiauna Mack, combining for half of the teams 18 blocks.
Corban’s top performers in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship included Rylee Troutman with 15 kills, Kendra Bittle contributing 6 kills, and Allyson Reid adding 5 kills.
“The Cascade Conference is one of the toughest and this tournament is an example of that. It helps prepare us in the best way for the post season,” added McLean Morehead. “I’m excited to see what this team can do in the next few weeks.”
With this victory, Eastern Oregon now claims their second consecutive CCC Tournament Championship. The Mounties will now aim to carry the momentum from Saturday’s victory into the upcoming NAIA National Championships. Keep an eye out for upcoming information, coming soon.
