LA GRANDE – Faculty and staff of Eastern Oregon University mark the opening of the university’s 92nd academic year today (Sept. 20), as fall term begins with Convocation.
EOU President Tom Insko will share a “State of the University” address in the afternoon, followed by a reception. Faculty members spend the rest of the week in Opening Session orientation and training, as students move back into the residence halls on Sept. 22, and classes begin Sept. 27.
Week of Welcome orientation for incoming on-campus students begin Sept. 23, and offers four days of in-person activities and events. Students bond with peers and mentors as they play games, build school spirit, and get acquainted with campus.
Following the FDA’s approval of a COVID-19 vaccine last month, EOU’s vaccination requirement went into effect. All students and employees, who plan to work, learn or engage with the university in-person and on-campus must have proof of vaccination or a valid exemption on file with EOU by Oct. 22.
Current regulations allow medical and non-medical exemptions, including for religious reasons. Medical and religious exemptions must meet federal standards. Students who request non-medical exemptions must complete an educational module about vaccines and sign a risk waiver.
Students should check their EOU emails or visit eou.edu/coronavirus/returning-to-campus for additional information.
All events comply with COVID-19 health and safety guidelines.
