LA GRANDE – (Release from Eastern Oregon University) The Cascade Collegiate Conference announced on Wednesday morning that Eastern Oregon University officially won the CCC All-Sport Champion Title for the 2022-23 athletic year. The Mounties edged out Southern Oregon by the slimmest margin on record to claim the title of best athletic program in the CCC.
“This is a true testament to how hard our coaches, student-athletes, and support staff work,” Athletic Director and Head Women’s Basketball Coach Anji Weissenfluh said. “I am so proud of each of our individual programs for the successes they had this year.”
The award goes to the school that finishes the year with the highest point total. Points are award on a formula based on the number of schools sponsoring the sport and competing for a regular season championship. Final standings are based on the top 8 place finishes per institution.
Eastern finished with the highest total, 200.57 points, thanks to several standout performances from individual programs. EOU had three CCC Championship titles in volleyball, women’s basketball, and men’s track and field in the 2022-23 athletic year.
“Thanks to our coaches for tirelessly working on behalf of your student-athletes, thanks to our athletes for the hard work and sacrifices they make to be successful, thanks to our support staff for all their behind the scenes, and thank you to our athletic trainers for helping our athletes remain healthy and ready to compete,” Weissenfluh said.
This year’s title marks the first time EOU has been named the CCC All-Sport Champion since the 2007-08 athletic year and is Eastern’s second in school history. EOU finished fifth in the overall standings a year ago.
