ENTERPRISE – It cannot be overstated just how essential volunteer EMS personnel are to communities across Eastern Oregon. With few townships having the resources to fund and fully staff professional fire stations (as in, paid full time), it comes down to dedicated, hardworking volunteers to keep many communities safe.
The city of Enterprise recently honored one of these heroes as he brings an end to two and a half decades of service. Carl McFetridge officially stepped down from the Enterprise Volunteer Department after twenty-five years of volunteer firefighting work, with the city giving a heartfelt sendoff during a council meeting on Monday, October 15. In a social media post on Carl’s retirement, the city wrote:
“For the Enterprise Volunteer Fire Department, the volunteers aren’t just the backbone of the agency, they’re the heart of it. Not only do they sacrifice their own safety to help others, but countless hours are spent away from their friends and families to serve in a time of need. On Monday night, we recognized Carl McFetridge for twenty-five years of selfless dedication and service. Carl, we appreciate you more than words can express and miss having you on the department!”
