PENDLETON – After months of shrinking enrollment numbers, Pendleton School Superintendent Chris Fritsch said things are looking up for the month of May.
“We’re up a total of 26 students from April to May,” he said. “That’s bucking a recent trend.”
Fritsch said until the May count the district had seen slightly smaller numbers every month since September. He also hopes it signals the beginning of the end to the annual slow decline in students.
“It could be that perhaps we’re finally hitting our valley floor, so to speak, of our enrollment,” he said.
In addition, Fritsch said that many of Oregon’s school districts are showing declines due to the pandemic, with parents opting for home schooling or other options.
