JOHN DAY AND HINES (Released Forest Service U.S. Department of Agriculture)- The Malheur National Forest will begin road maintenance on Monday, April 20, 2026, starting with repairs to the Stancliff Bridge on Forest Service Road (FSR) 31. The bridge is located approximately 12.7 miles south of the Cheatum Holler junction of FSR 37 and FSR 31 (T19S R31E Section 29; see map below).
This repair will require the bridge to be closed to traffic. A detour via FSR 3140 from U.S. Highway 395 connecting with FSR 31, north of the bridge is in place (see map below).
After completion of the bridge repair, road grinding and grading will be performed from the Stancliff bridge north along FSR 3100 to the junction with FSR 3700, during this work FSR 3100 will be open to single lane traffic. The bridge repair is one of several road maintenance and grading projects planned in 2026.
