CLE ELUM – The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announces the Bullfrog Road overpass spanning westbound Interstate 90 has reopened to traffic following a rapid 86-day emergency reconstruction project.
The overpass, a critical link for the Cle Elum community, had been closed since late October 2025 after it was severely damaged by an over-height vehicle load. Working under emergency authorization from Gov. Bob Ferguson, WSDOT and contractor Garco Construction, Inc. finished the repairs weeks ahead of the original late-January estimate.
To accelerate the $8 million project, engineers utilized precast concrete beams, which allowed for faster installation and fewer disruptions to I-90 traffic. While the primary structural work and barrier installations are complete, WSDOT officials noted that the work is not entirely finished.
“Our contractor responded quickly and delivered under tight timelines,” WSDOT region administrator Brian White said. He emphasized that the accelerated pace restored local access while maintaining safety for motorists and workers.
Crews are expected to return in the spring to apply a final thin overlay to the bridge deck. That phase will require a temporary closure of the overpass and local detours, though officials confirmed it will not necessitate further closures of the interstate below.
