Emergency Management Coordinator: Report areas of local flooding to dispatch

GRANT COUNTY The National Weather Service has issued a Hydrologic Outlook for Grant County and surrounding areas. Grant County Emergency Management Coordinator Eric Bush says if you come across areas of flooding, report it into dispatch:

“If there’s not an ongoing emergency, per se, but just a concern, I would encourage folks to call the business line at the Sheriff’s office or business line at the dispatch center. What we’ll do, is we’ll send an on-duty first responder out to take a look at it and then assess it from there. Then, they’ll reach out to folks like me—perhaps depending on where it is and what the nature of the problem is, maybe ODOT or the Road Department—and see if there are things we can do to mitigate the problem.”

The non-emergency line for Grant County Emergency Communications is (541) 575-0195. Find the Hydrologic Outlook in full below:

…RISES ON STREAMS AND RIVERS EXPECTED DUE TO SNOWMELT AND RAIN…

Small streams and large rivers coming out of the mountains will see rises over the weekend and through the first of next week.

Snow levels will rise over the weekend as a ridge of high pressure brings warmer conditions to the region. A fast moving weather system will bring some rain Thursday night and Friday. This will be followed by a slower system Sunday through Monday producing a more prolonged rain event with the high snow levels. These conditions will result in the rise of streams and rivers over the weekend that are expected to peak  around Tuesday followed by the return of cooler conditions and lower snow levels.

Some large rivers could approach bankfull as a result of this weather pattern but no flooding of the large rivers is expected at this time. However, small streams and creeks feeding into the large rivers will begin rising and running high over the weekend and have the potential to cause some flooding due to above average snowpack in the mountains.

This Hydrologic Outlook will be updated on Thursday afternoon with any other pertinent information.
