Ember from controlled burn sparks fire near Dixie

DIXIE – Walla Walla County Fire District No. 8 in Dixie reports an ember from a 200-acre controlled field burn on Biscuit Ridge Road near Seaman Road started a grass and brush fire on a steep hillside just before 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The fire district and farm hands immediately began to fight the fire. Additional units were requested from Walla Walla County Fire District No. 4, Columbia County Fire District No. 3, and the Washington State Department of Natural Resources.

A level one “Be Ready” evacuation notice was issued for Biscuit Ridge residents.

The fire was contained to four acres, the evacuation notice was lifted at 6 p.m. and units cleared the scene at 8 p.m.
