Elgin Lions send $1000 to Kerrville for relief program

ELGIN– (Release from Elgin Lions) Following a $1000 donation to Burns for flood relief, the Elgin Lions forwarded $1000 to Kerrville, Texas to assist with the disastrous floods in that community. President Pat McDonald reported on the need by the Texas Lions for help with flood relief efforts.

Lion Jim Baker reported that all went well with the Duck Train participating in the Elgin Stampede parade. Somehow, Sasquatch managed to commandeer one of the cars and seemed to enjoy the ride as well.

Lion Bob Reiter announced there will be a Kid’s BINGO session as a part of the  summer activities, and the Lions agreed to supply the materials and donate $100 toward the prizes to be given out at that time.

Kate Bottger noted that school will be starting soon ad there is always a need to help purchase supplies for some students.  The group voted to buy $300 worth of supplies for this school year.  Individual Lions were encouraged to purchase additional supplies as needed for students.

Chair Barbara Hawes set a date for Lions to meet at Pocket Park to spruce up the area. Cleanup will involve some trimming and raking of refuge.  

The club continues to support the Lions Community Garden.  The garden includes 24 individual planters for those community members who need space to plant vegetables.  The club provides a tool shed, fertilizer, and water to the community to assist with the gardens.   Chairs Ellie Renoe, Sue Horn and Jim Baker provide help for those needing assistance.
