Elgin Lions screen Imbler students, plan activities

ELGIN – (Release from the Elgin Lions Club) Eight Lions from the Elgin club visited the Imbler Elementary School, and screened the vision of elementary students in under an hour. Elementary students in Elgin will be screened at a later date.
Elgin’s Chamber of Commerce president, Kenna Collins, was a guest at the bi-monthly meeting. Collins encouraged the Lions to continue with candy booths but hopes to have scarecrow contest and a costume parade at 3:30 during Halloween. Collins indicated the Chamber is planning on supporting the Elgin Homecoming and asked the Lions to help serve a meal paid for by the Chamber. The event is scheduled for October 8th. There will be a parade for the youth, and Collins requested assistance in signing the kids up for a costume parade.
The club welcomed three new potential Lions from the developing Wallowa Club. Janet Delatori, Linda Werst and Karen Tanzey asked questions of the Elgin Lions and were eager to help usher for plays shown at the Elgin Opera House.
Co-chair Doreen Baker, informed the members she had received several calls asking when the Lions would resume BINGO activities. The club voted to start the event October 14th at the Community Center.
Chair Barb Hawes asked members when they would like to have another roadside cleanup, and the group voted on starting at 9:00 September 24th, after meeting at City Hall.
Lion Kate Bottger was recognized by Lions International with a Key Award for sponsoring two new members who have been in the club over a year. President Pat McDonald presented the award to Bottger.
