Elgin Lions donate $1000 dollars toward Elgin Community Center renovations

ELGIN – (Release from the Elgin Lions) Representing Elgin’s Community Center, Tomi Boolen was a guest at the local Lion’s meeting. Boolen stated that she and others have been working on improvements at the Community Center, but that a long-term project was to repair the roof of the Center. To that end, Boolen said there would be drives to raise the necessary funds. She stated that a spaghetti feed is planned April 10 th to help raise money. Several Lions immediately responded they would assist with the spaghetti fundraiser. Following the meeting, the Board voted to donate $1000 toward the roofing project.

After a short discussion of the Elgin Chamber of Commerce Banquet March 13th, Lion Doreen Baker’s motion to sponsor a table, was approved unanimously. Lion Kate Bottger will chair a committee to select the “Young Man of the Year.”

President Pat McDonald told the group that three requests had come from the community for examination and glasses, which was approved by the membership.

The club voted to send $250 to help elect Past District Governor Phyllis Carlin’s campaign to become the first elected International Director from our District.

Tickets are now available from members for the Lions’ Duck Derby to be held at the Elgin Riverfest June 14th.
