Elgin and Joseph museums receive over $14k in grant funding

ELGIN & JOSEPH – The Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department recently announced that the Oregon Heritage Commission has awarded $75,000 dollars in grants to13 museums across the state, including two in Northeast Oregon. Part of the Oregon Museum Grant program, the Elgin Museum and Historical Society and the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture will receive a combined $14,320 in grant funds.

Specific funding and project descriptions, as listed by the Oregon Heritage Commission, include:

  • Elgin Museum & Historical Society. Update the inventory, storage and display of the collection at the Elgin Museum.
    • Award: $6,320 
    • Match: $2,184
  • Josephy Center for Arts and Culture. The Josephy Center for Arts and Culture will present Nez Perce history, culture and living traditions through a combination of public talks and K-12 classroom resources.
    • Award: $8,000
    • Match: $9,195

The two local museums were the only Eastern Oregon awardees during the latest grant cycle. All grants were between $3,000 and $8,000 dollars.
