WALLA WALLA โ The Washington State Department of Ecology reports it has been working with its contractors, Stillwater Holdings Chevron, the building at 106 N. Second Avenue, and the Marcus Whitman Hotel, on the installation of permanent mitigation systems following the September 2023 gas leak in downtown Walla Walla.
Ecology Site Manager Beth Kercher said presently the agency is working to install a temporary system to replace Clean Harbors, which has been handling sump wastewater treatment and disposal. She adds Ecologyโs contractor has finalized the work plan for the temporary system and is procuring equipment.
The plan is to install long-term remediation systems. According to Kercher, Assistant Attorney General Derek Threet is working on behalf of Ecology to finalize access agreements with the property owners.
