WALLA WALLA – Sam Rudnick of Reata Ranches Ltd. has signed an access agreement allowing the Washington State Department of Ecology and its cleanup contractor to enter his building at 106 N. Second Ave. in Walla Walla.
Ecology Communications Manager Stephanie May explained that the access agreement is for maintaining vapor intrusion mitigation and managing sump water treatment and disposal systems.
According to the access agreement, Ecology aims to complete its actions by Aug. 30.
In September 2023, gasoline odors were reported at the Marcus Whitman Hotel and the 106 building, leading to the installation of vapor ventilation systems. According to Ecology, Stillwater Holdings Chevron, which is next door to the 106 building, was identified as the source of a leak.
A water treatment system was set up in early 2024 in the 106 building, but gasoline vapors continue to be detected at that property.
