WALLA WALLA – The Washington State Department of Ecology reports the first stage for removing the underground storage tanks at the Stillwater Holdings Chevron, 7 East Rose Street, in Walla Walla, is scheduled for some time between now and June 3.
The first stage of the underground storage tank removal process is uncovering the tanks and looking for leaks. The second stage is the actual removal of the tanks.
To date, Ecology said Stillwater Holdings, the owner of the property, has been funding the cleanup project with money from their insurance policy. Cleanup efforts continue at the site following a gas leak that was discovered back in September.
“Ecology is in the process of drafting contracts to continue work at the site,” Ecology’s Eastern Regional Office Communications Manager Stephanie May said.
May explained that Ecology will step in once the owner’s funds are exhausted.
