LA GRANDE – Eastern Oregon University released a statement in response to The Supreme Court’s ruling overturning affirmative action in college admissions. On Thursday, the court struck down affirmative action in higher education, declaring race cannot be a factor and forcing institutions of higher education to look for new ways to achieve diverse student bodies.
EOU Statement on Supreme Court Affirmative Action Ruling:
The Supreme Court ruling on Affirmative Action does not impact EOU’s admission practices. EOU remains committed to admitting every qualified student who applies and providing each with an affordable, accessible, inclusive, and high-quality education.
Eastern Oregon University’s focus continues to be consistent with our mission and goals of providing access and opportunity to all students, regardless of race/ethnic background. EOU continues to be steadfast in its goal to expand student access, success and completion. Through this work and with other strategic goals, the university continues to see more students from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds choose EOU to gain a university degree.
The Supreme Court rulings involve admissions practices at Harvard University and the University of North Carolina and may impact admission practices at many other universities and colleges nationally. EOU’s leadership team is reviewing the ruling, and what implications it may have for our students and our university.
