UNION COUNTY – On Tuesday, May 12, The Oregon State Police arrested two local teens on assorted charges following a traffic stop on I-84 Westbound near milepost 265, south of La Grande/Island City. The stop occurred at around 6:00 p.m. and involved the driver, 18-year-old Devon Dean Kennedy of Elgin, and passenger, 19-year-old Marrissa Gale Weston of Baker City.
A full summary of the stop and arrest, as provided by OSP in a recent press log, is as follows:
“On the above date and time, an OSP Trooper stopped a tan Buick for speeding near milepost 265 on I84 W. The driver’s driving privileges in the State of Oregon were misdemeanor level revoked. A later investigation also showed the driver to be impaired by alcohol.
While Troopers were taking the driver into custody, the passenger charged another Trooper, and began interfering with the stop. Troopers had to use force in order to get the passenger into custody on the side of the interstate. In the process, the passenger sustained an injury to her face. The passenger was transported to the hospital where she was issued multiple violation and criminal citations.
The driver was lodged at the Union County Jail for DWS Misdemeanor and DUII. The vehicle was towed from the scene incident to arrest by Captain Hook’s Towing. Two Troopers were evaluated at the hospital for minor injuries and exposure.”
Kennedy was charged with DUII -Intoxicants and Controlled Substance, Reckless Endangering Person, Reckless Driving, and Driving while suspended or Revoked (DWS) – Misdemeanor. Weston was charged with Assault IV – C Fel, Assault IV -A Misd, Interfere with Peace Officer, Resist Arrest, Giving False Information Regarding Liability Insurance, and Aggravated Harassment.
