Eastern Oregon historical properties receive over sixty thousand dollars in grant funds

EASTERN OREGON – Oregon Heritage, a division of Oregon Parks and recreation, recently announced that four Eastern Oregon historical properties and archaeology projects will receive grants worth a combined $61,934 dollars. This is part of a larger statewide effort funding 18 such projects for a total of $299,999. The projects were split between the Diamonds in the Rough category, which funds façade restoration, and the Preserving Oregon category, which funds archaeology projects on the National Register of Historic Places. A full breakdown of all projects is as follows:

  • Organization: Baker City Downtown.
    • County: Baker.
    • Project Description: “Complete plumbing repairs in the Masonic Lodge building in Baker City.”
    • Grant amount: $11,844.

  • Organization: Eltrym Theater, LLC.
    • County: Baker.
    • Project Description: “Replace the roof at the Eltrym Theater in Baker City.”
    • Grant amount: $16,350

  • Organization: Southern Oregon University.
    • County: Wallowa.
    • Project Description: Archaeological/geophysical survey & testing of the Maxville site in Wallowa County.
    • Grant amount: $20,000.

    • Project Description: Repair the stucco, paint and replace the awning with a more compatible style at 265 Main Street in Union.
