LA GRANDE – (Release from Eastern Oregon University) Eastern Oregon University proudly announces the outstanding achievements of three of its athletes who have been honored with Cascade Collegiate Conference Player of the Week awards. EOU athletes claimed three out of four available honors.
Men’s Basketball – Garrett Hawkes
Eastern Oregon University’s Garrett Hawkes, a sophomore guard hailing from Ashton, Idaho, has been named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Hawkes recorded an impressive 38 points against Arizona Christian University, the third ranked team in the NAIA. This marks the highest point total by a CCC player this season. Hawkes also displayed remarkable efficiency, shooting 66.7% from the field and connecting on 50% of his three-point attempts.
Women’s Basketball – Beverly Slater
Beverly Slater, a senior guard from Boise, Idaho, has earned the title of Rize Laboratory Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. The No. 17-ranked Eastern Oregon University athlete was named MVP of the Twin Rivers Physical Therapy Classic, leading the Mountaineers overtime comeback victory against the University of Montana Western. Slater recorded an impressive stat line of 30 points, 21 rebounds, and four assists against Montana Western, averaging 19.5 points, 15.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and two steals on the weekend.
Women’s Wrestling – Liv Weiber
Liv Wieber, a sophomore wrestler from Boise, Idaho, secured the title of Rize Laboratory Women’s Wrestler of the Week. Ranked No. 13 at 155, Wieber clinched a third-place finish at the Mike Clock Open. Dominating the tournament, Wieber went 5-1, showcasing three tech falls and two pins in under a minute and a half.
