Eastern Oregon Burn Ban Reminders

EASTERN OREGON – Summer might be winding down according to the calendar, but fire season is still in full swing. As a reminder, various township throughout Eastern have announced partial or complete burn bans via press releases and social media. 

  • Union restated its burn ban in its August 2022 newsletter. In addition, Union City fire chief Casey George also confirmed with Elkhorn that a burn ban in still effect. The newsletter can be found at: August 2022 Newsletter – City of Union, OR
  • Elgin did not make an online public press release or post concerning a burn ban, but the Facebook page for Elgin Rural Fire Protection District stated “No burning at all. County or city. The end!” on July 23. 
  • Baker City announced a residential burn ban effective as of July 28. 
  • Huntington announced a burn ban July 28 via Facebook

  • Lostine Announced a burn ban on August 1 via Facebook. 
  • Joseph made an official press release announcing a burn ban August 2. The full release can be found at: Burning is not allowed at this time | City of Joseph (josephoregon.org)
  • Wallowa announced a burn on August 3 via Facebook. 
  • Cove announced a fire pit ban via Facebook on August 4.

NOTE, the prior notices do not represent all townships within Eastern Oregon nor have all townships enacting burn bans made official releases or statements that can currently be found publicly. Residents should contact their local city government or fire protection district/service for more information regarding burn bans and fire restrictions.
