HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council has accepted an Oregon Department of Transportation Immediate Opportunity Fund grant of $596,600 to develop and complete East Penney Avenue’s connection between Southeast Kelli Boulevard and Highway 395. Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan said the grant will be matched by American Recovery Plan funds, and local taxpayers will benefit.
“We’ll be getting about $4.2 million worth of improvements at a total cost to the local tax payers of really only $250,000,” Morgan said.
He said that the connection will make it much easier for trucks to access the industrial park.
“The hope is we’ll get into design here in November, get it bid in the early spring, and be in the construction next summer with hopefully seeing vehicles driving on the new roadway this time next year,” Morgan said.
